Check Up

When Emerson had his very first check up, our pediatrician had to attend a hospital emergency and cancelled our appointment. By the time we could get back on the schedule, it was over a month out from our original appointment. Since then, Emerson has been a month behind on all of his check ups. Luckily, he has to this day {knock on wood} never been sick so it's never been much of an issue. All that being said, at 13.5 months Emerson just had his 12 month check up and I thought I'd share the experience with our family and friends!

Emerson was such a trooper. He loves the nurses at our pediatrician's office and is always SUCH a flirt! Of course he was more than happy to get out of all his clothes to run down the hall to get weighed in. "Naked baby on the loose" our nurse called after him. Not my proudest mommy moment, but it was pretty hilarious.

After all of the usual formalities (weight, height, vitals) we waited for the doctor. I went through my laundry list of questions as I usually do. It was confirmed that Emerson is talking, growing, clapping, pointing and walking (or running...) on schedule and that everything looked great. Because Emerson is getting older and more social (Sunday school, Mother's Day Out and swimming lessons are starting up) we decided to have him vaccinated. We initially thought we would hold off until he was school age, but with him being around other children more and more it felt like the appropriate time. I'm not going to use this as a platform to tell you when you should vaccinate your children as that is a decision for you and your family alone, but waiting a year was right for us. Emerson responded wonderfully to the vaccines. No issues what so ever. I have heard from so many friends who's babies have had adverse reactions, but because Emerson is bigger/older and has a more developed immune system, I feel that positively affected how he reacted to being vaccinated. We will absolutely follow the same path with our future children if we can. Like I said, it's a personal decision your family has to make and we couldn't be happier with ours. Derek and I thank God every day that we have such a healthy and happy son. We are completely aware of how lucky we are and couldn't be more grateful for our many blessings. Our first year with Emerson has been the greatest gift and this second year is bound to be an adventure that's only just begun!
