So after I knew for sure we were expecting, all I could think about was how I would surprise Derek. Here's the story of how he found out on July 12, 2011!
After confirming my pregnancy with blood work in the morning, I called in "sick" to the office in order to plan out how exactly I'd share the good news with Derek
(I figured I had a good excuse to play hookie for a day!).

First I went to Target and bought a white t-shirt and iron on letters and arranged them to display my special message.
Then I was off to Anthropologie where I bought a vintage inspired apron. My idea was to literally have a "bun in the oven" while dressed in a vintage inspired "1950's housewife" outfit. My apron also covered the wording on the shirt until I was ready to make my BIG announcement!
When Derek got home from work we had our usual daily banter. When I told him that I didn't go to work that day because I had gone to the doctor, he sat down on the bar stool at the kitchen island (I think he knew I was about to drop a bomb). It was my perfect opportunity! So I walked over to the oven and picked up my mitts. Then I pulled a huge cinna-bun out of the oven and placed it on a cake pedestal in the center of the kitchen island. Next I turned around and untied my apron for the big reveal!
THERE'S A BUN IN THE OVEN!
Derek was literally jumping with excitement and then we hugged and cried in the kitchen. It was so precious and amazing. A moment we will never forget!
