Telling The Grandparents

Saturday July 16, 2011 was a big day for us. We had been planning all week on telling our family that we were expecting and the day had finally come! We made the 5 hour journey from McKinney to Sugar Land to deliver the BIG news. It was our hope that my mother Terri would be able to make it in from Colorado to join us, but unfortunatly she was unable to make a flight due to a hail storm in Denver. Needless to say we were a bit disappointed, but "the show must go on" as they say.

That night we had everyone gather at Corelli's Italian and after putting in our order for dinner, we had Derek's mother Daphne read this poem aloud:

I do not have a face to see,
Or put inside a frame.
I do not have soft cheeks to kiss,
I don't yet have a name.
You can't yet hold my tiny hands,
Nor whisper in my ear.
It's still too soon to sing a song,
Or cuddle me so near.
But all will change come March 21, 2012

That’s when they say I'm due.
I'm your new grandson or grandaughter;
I can't wait till I meet you.
All I ask between now and then
Is your patience while I grow.
I promise I'll be worth the wait,
Because of all the love we'll know.
So as you're waiting patiently,

Please pray lots of prayers for me.
I cannot wait to be a part of this family!

After the poem was read we passed out baby bottles filled with chocolate KISSES covered in pink and blue wrapping. The grandparents-to-be were thrilled and very touched by the news. The next morning we called my mom to share the details and she too was filled with excitement. We met my dad Tim for dinner that night at our favorite Mexican place and as soon as I passed on a margarita, he knew something was up! We gave him a bottle as well and then we all began sharing stories of all the different babies that have been born in our families. It was so much fun!
